Job Title: Safety & Facilities Manager

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Safety & Facilities Manager is responsible for a variety of safety and facilities duties, including overseeing day-to-day service and repairs, capital improvements, and ensuring a safe workplace for all employees.  This position maintains extensive knowledge of the various operations protocols and identifies areas for improved efficiencies while maintaining Company safety policies.  The Safety & Facilities Manager supervises all Safety and Maintenance employees.  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Advise management on any updates or changes related to warehouse safety or facility management 
  • Manage heavy equipment maintenance and service; oversee new hire training related to equipment operations and safety procedures 
  • Maintain and update all certifications required for warehouse personnel which may include, but is not limited to: CPR, First Aid, AED, and Lift certifications? 
  • Maintain current knowledge of government safety standards and regulations; conduct in-house inspections and/or evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices to ensure proper compliance within the property of the Webstaurantstore 
  • Ensure that all Hazmat material is being properly stored in accordance with government regulations 
  • Ensure that all MSDS books are updated monthly and meet current regulations  
  • Ensure that all lockout-tagout procedures are followed by Support staff and warehouse employees 
  • In partnership with management, lead the accident investigation process to identify causes or determine how accidents may be prevented in the future 
  • Conduct warehouse walkthroughs, complete monthly fire extinguisher and eye wash station inspections, and report findings to management and Corporate Safety Coordinator on a regular basis with any regulatory questions, findings or any other safety issues 
  • Schedule and accompany any contractors while on-site to administer services 
  • Provide weekly updates to the management team regarding workplace safety issues.  
  • Be present for alternate shifts as new hires receive safety orientation and required training? 
  • Perform monthly safety meetings with each department/shift 
  • Promote company culture and ensure standards are maintained 
  • Ensure that all employees are aware of emergency evacuation procedures and conduct routine drills as needed 
  • Supervises a small maintenance team to ensure all safety and facilities goals are met, including:
  • Completion of daily, weekly, and monthly checklists on building equipment maintenance procedures and maintains records of scheduled maintenance procedures
  • Oversee repairs of electrical equipment and control circuits; replace faulty electrical switches; repair refrigeration equipment (minor issues)
  • Oversee routine electrical repairs such as changing light bulbs and assist in repairing ballasts and light fixtures as needed?
  • Obtain estimates for supplies / parts and purchases the supplies, equipment, and materials necessary to complete projects
  • Assemble and move furniture, hang pictures and bulletin boards as needed
  • Repair and replace door knobs or locks, repair door closures, patch holes in walls
  • Identify and perform basic repairs of plumbing leaks or breaks; open clogged lines and drains (when janitor is not able to), replace seals and other minor parts; maintain drinking fountains; repair, replace, and maintain hot water heaters and other appliances as needed?
  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests as required
  • Maintain records of scheduled and/or preventative maintenance procedures
  • When maintenance jobs not available, perform duties in the inventory department; operate equipment, perform cycle counts, look for lost items
  • Repair belts/conveyors and administer proper maintenance
  • Replace and add racking when necessary, including proper anchoring and safety measures are followed
  • Complete weekly test on fire pump and related equipment
  • Complete minor electrical wiring as needed
  • Perform other duties and tasks not listed as requested by the operations manager or supervisors including tasks not related to maintenance 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a maintenance or facilities environment; forklift certification preferred 
  • Knowledge of trades related to building maintenance and repair, including HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, electricity, etc.; including use of power tools, reading schematics, blueprints, and instructions 
  • Knowledge of general safety and OSHA regulations 
  • High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines in a fast-paced environment 
  • Ability to quickly adapt as business needs change; ability to address difficult situations with diplomacy and emotional intelligence 
  • Customer service-oriented attitude with a demonstrated desire to exceed expectations 

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS 

  • Business Proficiency in English is required 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Work is performed while standing and/or walking, up to and including 10 hours/day 
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing 
  • Requires the regular use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations 
  • Requires regular bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching 
  • Requires the ability to regularly lift / carry 50-75lbs. and push / pull up to 150lbs.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. Occasional activities may involve exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity, and exposure to dust, fumes and gases.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The passage of employees through the work area is average and normal.
